Abuse Allegations Surface on Set of When Life Gives You Tangerines: “Extras Left in Snow, Forced Haircuts”

On May 28, a viral online post accused the production team of creating what was described as an “avoided schedule” due to abusive working conditions. The whistleblower alleged that extras were treated as expendable, saying, “They even forced haircuts on cast members.”

Despite the prestige of being a Netflix original, the production allegedly failed to meet basic support standards, especially for non-lead actors. The author claimed, “The team was hesitant to spend on anyone who wasn’t a lead,” citing cost-cutting measures that compromised comfort and safety on set.
One of the most alarming parts of the post described elderly background actors being forced to wait outdoors during freezing winter weather. With no food trucks or tea tables, the only meals available were rushed 30-minute restaurant visits. The wardrobe team reportedly failed to provide thermal wear or season-appropriate clothing for the extras, further intensifying their discomfort.

“Some actors were left outside during heavy snowfall,” the author recalled. In one case, a fellow cast member had to guide another to a heater to avoid health risks. Shaving heads or cutting hair was also reportedly forced on extras for convenience, as the staff considered wigs “too inconvenient” in When Life Gives You Tangerines.
While the exact role of the whistleblower remains unverified, many netizens believe the post came from someone directly involved with production due to the specific details shared.

Yet, the show’s rising fame now faces scrutiny as behind-the-scenes treatment comes under fire. Fans and viewers have begun calling for accountability, urging both Netflix and the production team to respond to the allegations and ensure better working conditions for all cast and crew.
